Fossil Fuels

Will man kind ever separate from fossil fuels?  Eventually they will have to.  The planet only has a limited supply and pretty soon the well will dry out.  What will man kind do?  What will be the alternative to using fossil fuels as a source of energy?  Petroleum is vital and very important but there will come a day very soon when it will run out and then how will cars, planes, trucks, and other vehicles move?  Is man kind really heading to a dead end on energy?
